20th Annual Morongo Charity Golf Tournament Raises $60,000 for Children in Need
The yearly tournament has raised nearly $1.25 million for local non-profits and service agencies since its launch.
BEAUMONT, Calif. (June 14, 2016) – For the 20th year in a row, golfers hit the links for charity at Morongo’s annual golf tournament to raise money for new backpacks, school supplies and shoes for more than 800 low-income schoolchildren in the San Gorgonio Pass.
The annual tournament hosted by the Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa on Monday June 13 raised $60,000 and attracted 390 golfers to the championship Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
“For 20 years, the Morongo Charity Golf Tournament has helped support children in need across our region,” said event chairman Damon Sandoval, a Morongo Tribal Council member. “We want to extend our thanks to the players and sponsors who teamed up with Morongo to give back to the community by making the Morongo tournament a tremendous success every year.”
Since debuting in 1997, the Morongo Charity Golf Tournament has provided nearly $1.25 million to support dozens of local and regional nonprofits that serve veterans, children, schools and hospitals.
This year’s tournament raised $60,000 which will be used by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass to provide 800 local children from kindergarten through the seventh-grade with backpacks full of school supplies, as well as new shoes and hoodies, for the 2016-17 school year.
“Thanks to Morongo, hundreds of local kids will start the new school year on the right foot with new shoes and the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom,” said Amy Herr, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass.
The Morongo Charity Golf Tournament is one of several annual community events conducted by the Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa and the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, which donates more than $1 million annually to local and national nonprofit organizations and charities.
