Native American High School Intern

Morongo Environmental Protection Department’s Native American High School Internship Program started in the Summer of 2007. Since then, over 30 Morongo Tribal Members or Descendants have gone through the program. Students spend approximately 18 hours a week, for 5 weeks, working side-by-side with each Environmental Specialist to gain real-world experience in the environmental protection field.  Students learn about each of the EPD’s programs and complete  their own individual project related to environmental protection.

Purpose:

To provide an opportunity for Native American students to explore professional work experience in the Environmental Field.

Who May Apply:

Morongo Band of Mission Indians is an equal-opportunity employer. We do, however, give preference to Native Americans, as allowed by federal law. Applicants must:

  • Students must be entering high school in the Fall of 2026 or be current students
  • Have a fundamental concept of natural resources and environmental science
  • Be able to work in both an outside and inside environment
  • Have parent or guardian permission and provide signed liability waiver and photo release
Provisions:

Upon satisfactory completion of the internship, all students will receive a certificate of completion certifying volunteer hours worked. Students may receive High School credit (as approved by a counselor). It is the student’s responsibility to arrange the credit fulfillment with their school/counselor. This is an unpaid internship.

Openings:

Two High School Internship opportunities are available annually in June.
